Three players were placed on injured reserve. Tight end Billy Miller, fullback Olaniyi Sobomehin, and safety Chip Vaughn. Vaughn is the second member of the 2009 draft class to be placed on IR, joining linebacker Stanley Arnoux.
16 players were waived and three players had their contracts terminated, those being quartback Joey Harrington, guard/tackle Anthony Davis and defensive end Paul Spicer.
Wide receivers Adrian Arrington, Skyler Green and Courtney Roby were waived giving the fifth receiver spot to Rod Haper. Harper returned a pair of punts for touchdowns in the preseason, including Thursday’s preseason finale, which no doubt helped him solidify a roster spot.
The Saints chose to keep four tailbacks as Lynell Hamilton joins the stable ob backs that include Reggie Bush, Pierre Thomas and Mike Bell. P.J. Hill and Herb Donaldson were waived and likely one of the two could be practice squad candidates.
Tackel Michael Brown, center Digger Bujnoch, guard Tim Duckworth, cornerback Danny Gorrer, defensive tackle Earl Heyman, tight end Martrez Milner, tackle Jeremy Parnell, defensive tackle DeMario Pressley, receiver Matt Simon, and linebacker Anthony Watters were cut.
